Culture Club have announced a show at Hammersmith Apollo on September 5 for the band’s first activity since last year’s reunion tour was cancelled.

The arena tour, due to have featured Alison Moyet as support, was axed when Boy George required throat surgery on a vocal polyp. It was due to have been the band’s first tour with George since their 20th anniversary concert in 2002.

The band, featuring the original line-up of George, Roy Hay, Mikey Craig and Jon Moss, had been working on a new album entitled Tribes with producer Youth.

Seven new songs were previewed at a one-off comeback club show at London’s Heaven last October, including the single More Than Silence.

But, having originally been due out in April, there is no mention of Tribes in the Hammersmith Apollo show announcement. Packages are still available on funding site Pledge Music to pre-order the album, though the Culture Club microsite hasn’t been updated since March.

Boy George announced in April that he was making a reality TV show about moving home from London to Los Angeles. It isn’t yet clear what this means for the future of Culture Club’s reunion.

Tickets for the Hammersmith show are £42.50-£55, on sale on Friday.
