A popular 80s night in Derby is back for a one-off charity special on 1 July which will also double up as a tribute show to one of its biggest fans.

We Luv 80s was a successful club night for eight years and is now returning to raise money for the nominated charities of regular attendee Leighann McAllister

Organiser and DJ Martin Hadfield explains: “We got to know many of our regulars, but there was one that stood out and that was Leighann, or ‘Loopy Leighann’ as she called herself on Facebook.

“In November 2015, Leighann was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and was told that she had about five years to live. As you can imagine, we were all devastated by this horrible news, but she remained positive and happy even though her body was going through hell.

“We spoke regularly about her getting better and beating it, and I suggested getting the boys back together for a charity We Luv 80s, which she loved.

“Unfortunately, on 4 August 2016, Leighann passed away. At the funeral, I made a promise to her partner Andy and her mum that I would organise a one-off We Luv 80s for charity.”

The family’s nominated charities are Treetops Hospice – where Leighann did voluntary work – and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The We Luv 80s charity night takes place at The Venue, Abbey Street, Derby, on 1 July from 7pm to 1.30am. Admission is £10. For more details, contact Laura on 07506 700 478 or Andy on 07933 274 656.
