Stevie Wonder has released two new songs for the first time in four years after leaving Motown Records and setting up his own record label.

The 70-year-old music icon released

Is Our Love Song and
Put It In The Hands Of Fate on Tuesday on his new So What The Fuss Music label.

The release marks a major move for the singer, who was signed to Motown at the age of 11.

Wonder made the announcement in a virtual news conference, where he also revealed that a new album, Through The Eyes Of Wonder, was in the offing.

Wonder said he’d started writing one of the songs, Where Is Our Love Song, when he was just 18 in 1968.

“Then came this year,” he said. “With all the confusion and all the hate and the east versus west, left versus right. It’s just a heartbreak. And those who say, ‘This is what God has said… this is my religion,’ it’s just a lot of confusion… I’m watching all this and say, ‘Hold up, how can you be talking about God and there be hate in your spirit?’”

Wonder’s second release, Can’t Put It In The Hands Of Fate, features rappers Busta Rhymes, Rapsody, Cordae and Chika.

“I was thinking about where we are in the world,” he said of the track’s inspiration. “And I was thinking about how this is the most crucial time. Not just black people or people of colour but young people everywhere are going, ‘This is not acceptable.’ Change is right now. We can’t put it in the hands of fate. Ain’t nobody got time to wait.”

Wonder’s previous single was 2016’s

featuring Ariana Grande, while his last album was A Time To Love in 2005.
