In Classic Pop issue 99 we have a world exclusive cover feature interview with The Power Station’s John Taylor and Andy Taylor ahead of a deluxe reissue of the supergroup’s storming eponymous debut album. We dig into the genesis story of the Robert Palmer-fronted fourpiece, the band’s 1985 summer tour that has since become the stuff of legend, and much more.

We also catch up with both halves of Propaganda to aid the healing process after their acrimonious split as their masterpiece A Secret Wish album returns as a bells-and-whistles boxset.

Elsewhere, as they release a new career-spanning compilation that lives up to its ‘definitive’ billing, Classic Pop meets Mancunian indie legends James who look back on their various triumphs as well as a handful of self-inflicted career own goals. We also talk to Big Country co-founder Bruce Watson who recounts the bittersweet journey of the Scots rockers and how he’s keeping their legacy alive.

Also Inside…

For our latest classic album feature, we see how ABBA parked their personal heartbreak to serve up the stunning Super Trouper, while Northside’s Warren “Dermo” Dermody returns to the band’s Chicken Rhythms debut LP and unveils plans for new material.

We also take a deep dive into the back catalogue of The Pretenders for our Album By Album feature and tell the story of Nu Shooz’s electro-funk gem Poolside.

In our packed reviews pages we give our verdict on new album releases including Pet Shop Boys, Gary Numan, Florence + The Machine, Ed Harcourt and White Lies plus there’s a comprehensive reissues section featuring Fine Young Cannibals, Tears For Fears, Propaganda, Blondie, Kate Bush, Madness, Goldfrapp and more. In our live reviews section, we check out Self Esteem and Robbie Williams’ smallest-ever solo show at Dingwalls in London.
