Johns Flansburgh and Linnell currently knock out new material at such a pace one wonders whether they have gambling debts to pay.

This year they’ll revive their Dial-A-Song website, but first: the 15 tunes that kept them busy through 2017. These rarely deviate from their quirky style, which has stood the test of time but not often won new fans.

Open Mike Eagle’s patronage, however, may change that, as might An Insult To The Fact Checkers, which finds them rocking out unusually heavily with admirable insouciance.

Their ludicrous lyrics still charm: “She pulled out the rug/ From under her doodlebug”, from All Time What, or: “You would give up your right arm to go back/ To when you had a right arm” from the funky Push Back The Hands Of Time.
