The Cure have announced a massive headline show in Cardiff for summer 2026.

The concert, at Blackweir Fields on Wednesday 24 June, will be one of The Cure’s first UK shows since the release of their No.1 album Songs Of A Lost World. They will then play previously announced shows in Dublin, Belfast, Manchester and Edinburgh, alongside a headline set at the Isle of Wight Festival in summer 2026.

Special guests in Cardiff will be The Twilight Sad and The Joy Formidable, bands personally chosen by frontman Robert Smith.

The 2019 Rock & Roll Hall of Famers have had 13 members over 47 years. The 2026 lineup will feature: Robert Smith (vocals & guitars), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keyboards), and Reeves Gabrels (guitars).

The band last played the Welsh capital in December 2022, delighting fans at a sold-out Cardiff International Arena during their mammoth 44-date Lost World European Tour. In its five-star review, Classic Pop said: “Both band and fans soak in each sumptuous second of the evening’s set, which encompasses every shade of The Cure’s rich spectrum. ‘I hope my voice holds up,’ the singer modestly admits, ‘but if it doesn’t, I know you’ll know all the words’. Given the joyous rapture that greets the likes of Pictures Of You, Lovesong, Lullaby, A Night Like This, Push, Close To Me and In Between Days, from two of the band’s most celebrated releases, 1989’s Disintegration and 1985’s The Head On The Door, one suspects he could be right. Not that Smith need be concerned, despite illness or tour fatigue, his impassioned vocals still soar over these timeless melodies.

“It’s an evening of contrasts which sees the glacial likes of A Forest and Play For Today from 1980’s spiky sophomore Seventeen Seconds perfectly complement the multi-tonal lushness of From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea and Trust from 1992’s Wish. While favourites such as Faith, A Strange Day, The Last Day Of Summer and a belting Burn, serve as highlights in an already epic setlist, The Cure still have a ‘best of’ encore hidden up their collective sleeves. Having already passed the two-hour mark, they then unveil the likes of The Walk, Friday I’m In Love, Just Like Heaven and Boys Don’t Cry during a technicolour sign-off to one spectacular show. Let’s hope that we won’t have to wait too long for more…”

Massive Coup

Launched earlier this year, Blackweir is Cardiff’s new live music hotspot in a partnership between DEPOT Live (the live-events arm of Cardiff music venue, DEPOT) and UK promoters Cuffe and Taylor. The Cure join a Blackweir line up which will already see a headlining show from US vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims (26 June), GRAMMY Award-winning rapper Pitbull (4 July) and two headlining shows from Scottish superstar Lewis Capaldi (30 June and 1 July).

Nick Saunders, founder of DEPOT Live said: “This is a massive coup to bring the legends that are The Cure here to Blackweir. When we first announced we would be hosting shows here at this incredible location The Cure were top of many people’s wish lists, so we are absolutely delighted to be making a lot of people very happy with this announcement. The Cure are the soundtrack to so many people’s lives, they have been one of the world’s biggest bands for more than 40 years, so it does not get much bigger and better than to be welcoming them to Cardiff and Blackweir Fields next summer.”

Fans can sign up for the Thursday 16 October 10am pre-sale here, with tickets going on general sale, at 10am, Friday 17 October 17 here and here
