XMAS makes her the first female singer to secure a UK No.1 single in four different decades
Kylie has claimed the UK Christmas No.1 for the first time in her career with the Amazon Music Original single XMAS.
Landing 37 years after her first UK No.1 hit, I Should Be So Lucky in 1988, XMAS makes Kylie the first female artist to top the charts in four different decades. Other Kylie songs to claim the top spot include: Especially For You (1988), Hand On Your Heart (1989), Tears On My Pillow (1990), Spinning Around (2000), Can’t Get You Out Of My Head (2001) and Slow (2003).
Speaking exclusively to the UK Official Charts, Kylie said: “It’s hard to put into words how special this feels. Being Christmas No.1 really is the most wonderful gift! I’m so thankful to everyone who’s been listening and sharing the love and I’m wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!”
Christmas Cracker
Replacing Wham!’s Last Christmas at No.1, which topped the chart in 2023 and 2024, the musical milestone also marked a first for Amazon and is the result of a concerted effort by the online retailer to target the Christmas music market. Following a series of exclusive festive releases by the likes of Tom Grennan, Sam Ryder and Ellie Goulding, XMAS was unavailable on rival platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
Martin Talbot, Chief Executive, of the UK Official Charts said: “Since she announced her plan to enter the festive chart race, we have always felt she could mount a serious challenge, but it was hard to imagine that she would send the records toppling as she has this week.
“Now, with what feels like a genuine festive banger, she has claimed the Christmas No.1 2025. And it already feels as if XMAS has a genuine chance of becoming one of the nation’s favourite, recurrent, festive classics, returning year after year. Maybe, finally, Mariah has a challenger for her crown – Kylie, the new queen of Christmas?”
Fully Wrapped
Talbot is, of course, referring to the Mariah Carey perennial favourite All I Want For Christmas Is You, which placed at No.3 on this year’s listing. Other notable seasonal entries include Brenda Lee’s 1962 classic Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree at No.4, The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s Fairytale Of New York (No.6), Kelly Clarkson’s Underneath The Tree (No.8), Elton John’s Step Into Christmas (No.9) and Bobby Helms’ Jingle Bell Rock (No.10).
The Top 10 is completed by Together For Palestine’s Lullaby, featuring a number of Palestinian artists alongside the likes of Neneh Cherry and co-creator Brian Eno, which made No.5, plus Dave and Tems’ Raindance (No.7).
XMAS is also included on Amazon editions of her Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped) – an expanded version of her 2015 release – which followed last year’s Tension II to No.1 on the UK Album Chart, registering her 11th chart-topping UK LP.
