Pet Shop Boys will headline This Is Navalny, an event commemorating Alexei Navalny, in Berlin on 28 June.

Navalny, the Russian opposition leader who died in prison in 2024, is honoured in this memorial, which aims to unite supporters in the fight for freedom.

Pet Shop Boys said: “We are very happy to give support to the alternative vision of a free and democratic Russia expressed by Alexei Navalny whose tremendous courage and spirit continue to inspire. Navalny imagined Russia, liberated from the corruption and authoritarianism of Putin, becoming a ‘prosperous, democratic country’ at peace with its neighbours. He considered Putin’s invasion of Ukraine to be ‘immoral, fratricidal and criminal’. His legacy is one of hope and optimism for change.”

In February 2025 Pet Shop Boys released the song Hymn (In Memoriam Alexei Navalny). Listen below:

The event features performances by Russian musicians – including the duo Aigel, the singer Grechka, and classical performers. There will also be a live meeting with Yulia Navalnaya (the widow of Alexei Navalny and head of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, which her husband founded), as well as a screening of the Oscar-winning documentary Navalny.

Profits from the event will help to support Russian political prisoners through the You Are Not Alone Foundation. The organisation helps people in Russia who have been imprisoned for political reasons and helps assist their families.
