A host of famous names from pop have come together for a new remotely-recorded charity cover of Robbie Williams’ Angels.
The song has been recorded in tribute to the late producer Steve Brown, with all proceeds going to a charity he set up before his death that provides the families of frontline workers who have died from COVID with angel statues.
Among the celebrities taking part are Tony Hadley and Steve Norman of Spandau Ballet, Marcella Detroit (Shakespears Sister), Jools Holland, Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Clem Burke (Blondie) and David Bowie guitarist Earl Slick.
“Although I’d never had the pleasure of working with Steve I certainly knew of his incredible achievements and I’m humbled to be part of this tribute,” says Marcella Detroit. “My heart goes out to the families of the NHS workers who lost their lives helping others; we can’t bring them back but we can remember and honour them. This charity was important to Steve and for his sake and the sake of the cause I hope it gets the recognition it deserves.”
