Devoted fans whos us their collections and pop memorabilia. This time, Gill Coombs from Brighton shows us her Frankie Goes To Hollywood collection…
Q When did you first become a Superfan of your favourite artist and why?
A As a 13-year-old in 1989, when Holly Johnson released Love Train, I discovered that he used to be in a band and I worked backwards from there! Frankie’s music hit me like a lightning bolt. Nothing before, or since, has had such an impact on my life – and there’s no rational explanation for it! I’ve just given birth to a new baby the other week and called him Frankie!
Q What do you have in your collection?
A A large collection of their music on all formats plus T-shirts, posters, magazines, badges, autographs and lots of miscellaneous stuff!
Q How much have you spent on your collection?
A I’ve never had a huge amount to spend but still wouldn’t like to guess!
Q What’s your favourite item in your collection?
A Photos from the gig I organised for Nasher in 2010 and personalised autographs from Holly and Nasher.
Q What do the letters in your collection relate to?
A They are a collection of correspondence between various city councils and the police regarding illegal merchandise sellers during their UK tour in 1985.
Q Have you ever met your favourite artist?
A I bumped into Holly last summer and immediately turned into a lovestruck 13-year-old again. I burbled at him like a mad woman, then ran off without getting a photo. I’ve also met Nasher a couple of times, most notably when I organised the gig in 2010. He’s a lovely bloke and always has lots of time for his fans.
Q If you could ask your favourite artist one question, what would it be?
A Will you all be godparents to baby Frankie?
