While we’re still waiting for the brand new ABBA songs to land, there is something ABBA-shaped to look forward to this December, and that’s a limited edition 7” release for a song that, amazingly, has never been released as a single before.

Happy New Year, from the band’s 1980 album Super Trouper, will be released on 4 December as a highly-collectable, strictly limited, numbered, translucent blue vinyl 7”. In different times, the song – sung by Agnetha Fältskog with back-ups from Anni-Frid (Frida) Lyngstad – would have been released as a worldwide single, but ABBA, possibly conscious of never short-changing their fans, had already put out two singles from the album, with a third on its way (the title track, The Winner Takes It All and Lay All Your Love On Me); so it remained the opener of the LP’s second side. It was only ever issued at the time of release as a single in Argentina (in its Spanish language version, Felicidad, included here as the B-side).

To commemorate the arrival of 2021, a worldwide run of 6,000 copies of this exclusive single have been pressed. The die-cut gatefold sleeve features unique artwork, which displays the single with its picture label, a shot of ABBA from the Rune Söderqvist-designed Super Trouper album cover sessions.

Now, where are those new songs again…?
