Bernard Sumner and co. release first new music in five years

New Order have released a brand new song, their first new track since 2015’s album Music Complete.

The classically New Order-sounding Be A Rebel was originally planned as a release ahead of the band’s tour this autumn, but with live shows on hold and their dates rescheduled to 2021, Bernard Sumner and co. decided that what the world needed right now was a new New Order track. (He’s right)

“In tough times we wanted to reach out with a new song,” said the 64-year-old frontman. “We can’t play live for a while, but music is still something we can all share together.  We hope you enjoy it… until we meet again.”

In other New Order news, the band will release the definitive collection of their 1983 studio album Power, Corruption & Lies via Warner Music on 2 October 2020. The boxset will be accompanied by individual releases of the four 12” vinyl singles from 1983/1984 that didn’t appear on the original album, beginning with the peerless Blue Monday, and followed by Confusion, Thieves Like Us and Murder.
