The perfect lilting title track to an excellent album – Diamonds And Pearls is No.8 on our countdown. We challenge you not to sing along…

7. Little Red Corvette (1983)
This glossy Prince track, which takes the No.7 spot in our countdown, earned its own lengthier 12″ release. Little Red Corvette is streamlined brilliance.

5. When Doves Cry (1984)

4. (1992)
Our No.4 is one of Prince’s most extraordinary creations: 7.

3. Gett Off (1991)
In at No.3 is thunderous hit Gett Off, written for release on Diamonds And Pearls.

No.2 in our countdown: Purple Rain. This whole album is majestic, but the ever-unsolvable title track is a highlight.

1. Sign O’ The Times (1987)
Here’s our No.1: Sign O’ The Times is another flawless album, with Prince’s vision perfectly distilled, but the title track is simply wondrous.
